Nissan Repair: electrical, dashboard lights, dash lights

When I turn on the headlights in my 1998 Pathfinder, the dashboard lights (illuminating the guages, radio, heater controls, etc.) turn off.  Even the LED in the radio goes off.  Everything else seems to work.  I checked the fuses near the battery and they are all good. Any other ideas?

You have two choices here.  The first one is the cheap fix and the second is a little more.  I would replace the dimmer for the dash lights first.  This is the one that allows you to dim the lights in the instruments.  If that does not do the trick then it is the headlight switch.
