Nissan Repair: 2000 Maxima starter, air intake hose, mass airflow sensor

Question
My Maxima would not start and I detected a burning smell after cranking for a  while.  Battery is still good, so I replaced the starter.  It started right up, so problem solved, right?  Not!  Now it wont start again.   When turning key starter cranks, but engine won't catch or turn over.

Answer
Jay,

Check the wiring where you removed everything to replace the starter.  That wiring connector close to thestarter is probably disconnected or the air intake hose between the mass airflow sensor is probably loose if not cracked.  Unmetered air will keep the engine from starting and if it did catch it would run bad due to improper air intake readings.
