Nissan Repair: changing the knock censor, nissan sentra gxe, nissan sentra

Question
Hi,

I looked closely at the cylinder block for 30min or so, but unfortunatly could not find it. Would you know if it supposed to be accessible without removing anything ?

Thanks a lot for you help,

1997 Nissan Sentra GXE..

Code 34 came up, which is "knock sensor circuit open or shorted" by Haynes. I wanted to check it. Do you know where it is located ?

Thanks a lot for your help,

loïc

Answer -
Hi Ioic or loic?,

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the ECM.
* Freeze frame data will not be stored in the ECM for the knock sensor.
The MIL will not light for knock sensor malfunction.

This is all Nissan gave me. Sorry... But of course you know it will be on the firewall side...

Answer
Loic,

Nissan doesn't give me any information on this sensor other then it's round. It's likely on the firewall side because that's our luck. I will assume that you will need to move stuff because the book calls for 1.1 hours to replace. Sorry, I have looked twice for this info. You might ask the parts guy where it's located when you buy the new one.
