Question -
2000 nissan altima, service light on and rough idle.

started with service light, scan and bad o sensor replaced. light stayed on sensor replaced again.

scan and bad 4th spark plug.
cap,rotor,plugs,wires replaced.

light came back on and still rough idle. replaced distributer per advice from von and light came back on after starting vehicle. disconnected battery to reset every time.

vehicle runs fine at all other speeds except at idle it still runs rough. idles better with a/c on at idle.higher rpm.

with initial start up it runs at high normal rpm ,with the engine getting warmer the idle lowers down to normal that is when it starts the rough idle.

gas is good, my other car gased at same place same day and it runs good.

HELP!!!

Hi Ruben,

I suspect this is a low idle sensor. When your A/C comes on there is a solenoid that increases the idle to accomidate the extra load from the compressor. When you disconnect the battery it resets the codes in the computer. As soon as the computer sees other things adjusting to try and compensate it kicks the check engine light on. We need to know what code is in there to properly repair your car. I suggest having your car scanned at a local garage. Cottman transmission will do this for free. Once you have the code number, resubmit and I will get you the rest of the info on the repair.

Answer
HI Rub,

Could you give me the code number please? I ask because the most banks a car can have is 2! 4 cyl have one, in line sixes have one, v-anything has two. That's why I am curious about which code number you have.

Thanks, and thank you for the great rating. That is all the reward I get as a volunteer. Thanks again.
