Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Sentra, shudders and wants to stall, red sox nation, nissan sentra

Question
My 2000 Sentra (with less than 70k miles) has been shuddering lately at lower speeds and feels like it wants to stall after being started. At speed it drives well but lately has been kicking and feeling like it wants to stall. The battery was recently replaced and coolant and oil do not need to be changed or added. My husband thinks it's a spark-plug issue, I wonder if we could just use a gas additive (we use 87 octane) to solve the problem. Are either of us right or is it something bigger than that? Thanks. Go Sox!

Answer
Hi Shana! Red Sox Nation! Boy, they need to win today, last night was a heartbreaker.

Is the check engine light on in your Sentra? It's not likely a spark plug issue, tell hubby "nope"! Not fuel either! It's likely a bad sensor... #1 cause of scaring people to death. We need to run it over to a shop that can scan your car for DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). I know Cottman's do this for free. There's one in Salem and one in Charlestown. But if you don't live in MASS, then try Cottman.com for one near you. Once you have that info, please resubmit and I will guide you through the repair. Hope this helps...
