Nissan Repair: 1996 NISSAN SENTRA, nissan sentra, volt input

Question
MY NISSAN SENTRA WILL NOT FIRE.  WHAT CAN IT BE?

Answer
James,

When you say it will not fire does that mean that you are getting fuel but no spark?  If that is the case check the distributor to see if it is getting 12 volt input when you turn the key to start and 9 volts when it is in run mode.  This could be as simple as the ignition fuse or a loose wire.  Or, it could be that the distributor has failed due to oil on the optical pickup.  Since the car is ten years old there is a good probability that the internal seal has failed on the distributor and that has let oil enter the triggering mechanism.  If this is the case replace the distributor with a rebuilt one.
