Nissan Repair: Service engine soon, nissan maxima se, nissan maxima

Question
Thank you Von so much for the information on my car. Thought I would ask one more question promise i will leave you alone. My service engine soon was on till they reset it the dealer. My 2000 Nissan Maxima SE. I took it to Auto Zone but did not show up on their computer as anything so they told me to tighten gas cap. That did not help. Would the computer show if it is an oxygen sensor? Would the computer show if the coils are misfiring, even if they are not doing so at that time. After the reset, on my car the other day at the dealers two days ago light still off. Just dont want to mess up the catayltic converter. Please tell me what to do Von?  Thank you and God Bless for your help. Tammie

Answer
Tammie,

The ixygen sensor would show up as an out of range reading and the coils usually show up as a cam position sensor reading or a knock sensor as the coils do not fire properly.  If you have not replaced the coils or they were not replaced in the past the 2000 Maxima coils do fail and there was a service bulletin on them way back when.  If the light is still off then the problem has not re-surfaced.  I am sure it will if it was not the gas cap.  If the check engine light comes back on it will aid in the diagnosis so email me back if it does.
