Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan pickup and check engine light, intake air temp, nissan cars

Question
My check engine light came on but this pickup with 115,000 miles is running great.  I took it to Nissan for evaluation and they said 'found code for the intake air temp sensor stored in system.  Inspected sensor and it is OK. Checked the wiring from the ECU to the sensor and there is a break in the yellow wire.  Found the broken wire and repaired the wire.  All is working OK now.  No further problems.'

About a month later the light came on again.  I have this feeling if I take it in again they will charge me another $110, regardless if the first repair failed.  Can you tell me where this wire is and whether I can inspect/repair it myself.  If it is the yellow wire I would like to take pictures of it and take it to Nissan to see if they try to soak me by telling me it was a different problem.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Answer
Adrian,

The wires from the sensor that is on the air inlet can be followed back to the firewall.  I suspect the splice is fine and if it is broken loose it might be from someone changing the air filter.  You see, when you replace the air filter you move the wires around.  The sensor is that close.  The probe just plugs into the air inlet and then the wires go back into the harness.  Where it was damaged surely is close to the sensor.  If the splice is fine I would change the sensor as this is a common occurance with Nissan cars and trucks.  No, I do not think they are taking advantage of you and if it lasted a month it would be your word against theirs.  Email me back wiht what you find.
