Question
1987 nissan 300zx rear brake cylinder: how do you turn the cylinder to adjust it inward for new brake pads

Answer
Erin,

You need to purchase a tool from the parts store that allows you to screw in the rear pistons while compressing them in.  Under the piston is a cone that rotates out as the pads wear and that is what you are screwing back in.  Take you time as you do not want to damage the dust seal.  That is the rubber part on the outside of the piston.  The rerason for all this pain is that the cone keeps the piston form sucking away from the pads.  The parkign brake is controled from the same pistons.  So, go to Autozone, Checker, or your local parts store and they will know what you need.
