Nissan Repair: 1995 Maxima SE stalling..., throttle position sensor, fuel pressure regulator

Question
My car has 135K miles, SE automatic, and it will stall after warming up (12-15 miles).  No engine warning lights come on. When we decelerate coming to a light, for example, the tach will fluctuate and drop to zero.  Black smoke will come out of the tailpipe, and you can feel the miss.  It will immediately restart, and sometimes the symptoms will pass and it will run strong.  I've driven it as much as 250 miles/ day, stop and restart, and no issues.  But some days, it will act up right on schedule once it's warmed up.

We've replaced the spark plugs, throttle position sensor, coils, fuel filter, and had the air flow system cleaned and adjusted.  Dealer says don't bring it by unless it is acting up and they could plug into the system.

Any advice will be appreciated... Al H...

Answer
Al,

Have the fuel pressure checked.  If it were me I would screw a gauge in at the pressure port and tape the gauge to the windshield and drive it.  What I am thinking it the fuel pressure regulator is hanging and the car is getting so much gas it dies.  You did say the throttle position sensor had been replaced and this is the next thing to look at so if you have a gauge do it and if not have a shop check the fuel pressure.
