Nissan Repair: 1989 Nissan Sentra starts, idles well, but burns oil coming from the engine., nissan sentra, dipstick tube

Question
1989 Nissan Sentra starts, idles well, but burns oil coming from somewhere in the engine. Oil is everywhere. How can I degrease (what product?) and how do I find the problem without having the engine taken apart, if possible?

It was dry (radiator)I put water it immediately idled low.. sounds good, but still burning oil from somewhere. This happens in 5-10 mins of idling.

Answer
V,

Simple grees works well to remove oil from the engine.  You should be able to clean the engine and move the car to a dry spot and then run the car and observe where the oil comes from.  If you cannot find the oil leak there is a product that introduces smoke to the crankcase that will come out of the leak.  Well, that is how a shop will find a hard to locate leak.  And, no the engine does not need to come apart.  You can be sure the valve cover is probably leaking from the start.  But, that is only from experience I have had with this engine.  Also, the front seal goes out and that throws oil all over.  Check the dipstick tube too since these are known to break at the block.
