Nissan Repair: 1995 200SX Manual Transmission Problem, shift fork, wrecking yard

Question
Hello Von,
 My question concerns a 1995 200SX with a 5-speed manual transmission, with 117,000 miles...

My daughter was driving and the transmission got stuck in third gear, I drove it and tried to pull it out of gear to no avail. I had about a 5 mile trip with few stops, so I took a chance and drove it home. While driving, and under accelleration, it suddenly popped out of third. The problem now is that I can no longer get it to go into third or fourth gear. I have first, second, fifth, and reverse, but no third or fourth. Any suggestions?

Answer
Vince,

Either the shift fork is broken or the syncros and gears are damaged.  I would think the third gear and shift fork if it were me.  The transmission will have to be taken out and taken apart to correct the problem replacing the parts indicated as a minimal.  Another option is a wrecking yard transmission.
