Nissan Repair: 94 Altima not starting, neutral safety switch, mean time between failure

Question
While driving a few weeks ago, my lights dimmed and car shut off. I took the battery to be tested and was told it was bad. After installing the new battery, the car ran fine for 2 days, and then the same thing happened (lights dimmed, engine died). So I replaced the alternator and car ran fine for over a week. Today when I tried to start the car it will not start. When key is turned half way, all the dash lights and radio turn on, but when key is turned all the way I hear one "click" noise, and the digital clock turns off until the key is turned back. The engine makes no attempt to crank. Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer
Eric,

If you have lights and the radio works I would assume the starter has given up.  Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) shows that the Japanese are on top of their game and most components fail close to the same time.  Check to make sure that the starter does not work when you run the shifter through the gears to make sure that the neutral safety switch is not going out.  If the car starts when you do this then it was the switch.  If not, it is the starter.
