Nissan Repair: 2001 Altima Stalls when idle, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
Von,
My 2001 Altima started stalling when sitting at lights. When I hooked it up to the comp it said that it was a faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor. I replaced that . Problem still exists but now it is worse. The car's Rpms will bounce in park and the car will stall. Also sometimes in drive car will not accelerate at all very hesitant then will stall or if you turn car off and restart problem is gone until the next time it arises. Any idea on what this can be? Please Help

Answer
Mike,

Make sure the mass air flow sensor (MAF)is connected in the intake stream properly.  Basically, there can be no unmetered air entering the engine.  So, the black intake hose from the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body has to be connected tight and the smaller hoses cannot be loose either.  Other sources of unmetered air are vacuum lines and the PCV.  Be sure the code is cleared before you run the car and the car should be run three times to make sure the computer recognizes its new MAF.
