Nissan Repair: electrical, smog check california, nissan hardbody

Question
went to get a smog check (california style) and everything was fine but for one thing: the cpu plug under the dash was not responding when the tech plugged into it.  The vehicle is a 1997 nissan hardbody w/a four cylinder engine. He said there was apossibility of a bad fuse or...he could give me no idea where to start looking.

Answer
Nathan,

First I would go to Autozone or Checker and have them read the computer to see if it was the SMOG guys equipment.  I have a guy that works for me and his did the same thing.  It turned out the SMOG computer connection was bad and not the car.  So, check it out before you spend the money to get your worked on if it is not bad.  Now, if the connector is defective you can get another at a wrecking yard and solder in the connections since yours might be defective.  If you took it to the dealer be looking at spending $500 to get it corrected.  So, for me, the cheap guy, I will go to the wrecking yard and get another one to solder in.  That is, if it is even bad, in the first place.
