Nissan Repair: 300zx alternator, pep boys, aftermarket stereo

Question
I had a reman alternator replaced about 2 months ago on my 89 300zx two seater non turbo and everything was fine, today the volt meter is showing about 8-10 and the battery light comes on when idling...is this alternator going bad? And...Can I run any year Maxima alternator to get more amps on my 300zx?  Thanks

Answer
Ben,

Yes, the alternator is defective since you are below the acceptable level of voltage at idle.  I would go with a different remanufacturer.  If you bought Autozone you are going to have this problem again and again.  I would go with Pep Boys or Checker for alternators since I have had no luch with Autozone alternators.  I suppose you could convert but what is the reason since the factory one lasted so long?  Now, if you have an aftermarket stereo that would be a good reason.  And, you can make your pulley fit the Maxima alternator.
