Nissan Repair: 1999 nissan altima instument cluster lites, nissan altima, lighting problem

I am troubleshooting an instrument cluster lighting problem on a 1999 Nissan Altima GLX. Simply, the lights go out at night intermittantly. I suspect a switch in the schematic of a Hanley manual, since based on the schematic the glove box light is not affected. I believe this switch raise and lowers the luminance of the instrument cluster. My problem is the location of the switch,which does not seem to be identified and the part number.

Yes, that is the problem.  I would go to the dealer and get a new one as a used one will fail too.  It is the dimmer on the dash beside the instrument cluster.  Try running the brightness up and down a couple of times to see if the lights will come back.  If not replace the switch.
