Nissan Repair: brakes, brake pads and rotors, minimal dust

Question
Hi there,

I have a '96 maxima and have consistently changed the brake pads and rotors over the past year, but anytime i apply the brakes, it makes a very annoying screeching and stalling noise, the car also vibrates from side to side and the technician who works on the car is unable to find out what the problem is. Secondly, after starting up the car, the O/D off(overdrive) light on the dashboard keeps blinking and thirdly the engine under the hood jerks/shakes when the car is started. Could you pls assist me with these problems.

Answer
Steve,

First go to Nissan and buy the shim kit to get rid of the screetching noise.  Second buy Nissan brakes as they are probably the best for wear and minimal dust.

The overdrive light flashing indicates a problem so ahve the codes read to find out if it is a shift servo or the controller for the transmission.

On the jerking problem I would look at the motor mounts to see if any are broken or soft.  My bet is the back one is broken.
