Nissan Repair: wont start when warm., 1990 nissan 300zx, nissan 300zx

Dear Mr. Sudderth,
      i have a 1990 nissan 300zx 2+2, i am having trouble with the car when i drive it, when i give it gas sometimes it hesitates and gurgles before it kicks in and every once in a while it will gurgle when i am just driving at a solid speed.... the other problem is that the car will only start consistantly when it is cold. if i drive the car around and shut it off and then try to start it again, it wont start or it will start with some difficulty. i changed the plugs out and was going to change the wires but apparently my model does not have wires or a distributor, instead it has individual coils on each plug.... i am completely stumped and i would be eternally grateful if you knew what was going on, thanks..... josh

First I would change the fuel filter and then check the fuel pressure to make sure that the pressure is correct and the pressure is not dropping off when the engine does the gurgle thing.  The hard start when hot leads me to think the fuel filter is plugging up and the pressure is off.

If you find the pressure correct after the filter change then the next thing to check is the coils and with the age they should be replaced if out of range.
