Nissan Repair: DTC code, bosch platinum, oxygen sensors

Question
-------------------------
Followup  Thanks for the info, before I buy new plugs let me ask you something, I bought this truck new, since the begining I noticed when I start from a dead stop I get the preignition knock or rattle, it is a stick shift, I even tried riding the clutch a bit but that does nothing. I also noticed that I get it upon acceleration escpecially with the a/c on and it seems worse after highway driving (which I do mostly)110 miles a day highway. I use regular gas, super and premium give me the same results. Should I try a cold plug? Thanks again Rich
I have a 2001 Frontier 2.4L 2WD reg cab VIN 1N6DD21S81C381918. 120,000 miles check engine light on, scanner is giving me a PO420 code," efficiency below thresh hold, bank 1". At 108,000 I did a tune up, I used the new Bosch Platinum 4 plugs, and changed both oxygen sensors using Bosch. Bosch part numbers...manifold 15466... cat. conv.15975 these part numbers came right from a tech at Bosch. At about 118,000 the light came on, I took out plug number 1, it looked fine, I wiped it off and put it back in, a few hundred miles later the light went off, now at 120,000 it came on again. What should I try? Thanks Rich

Rich,

Bosch Platinum plugs do not work really well with the Nissan combustion chamber design.  Change the plugs out to the factory ones or use Autolite Platinum and your problem will be resolved.  This has happened to me a couple of times with Bosch plugs.  I do not use them as a result...

Answer
Rich,

Change the plugs and then retard the timing a degree at a time until the spark knock goes away.  Spark knock is really bad for an engine.  If it continues you could spin a rid bearing.  So, retart that timing.  Also, I would put a K&N airfilter in to increase the airflow.
