Nissan Repair: my car wont start, i dont know what to do, neutral safety switch, ac radio

Question
hi von, I don't know much about cars but i'm hoping you'll have an idea and possible solution to my problem.  I don't believe its the battery, as everything turns on when you turn the key, lights, ac, radio etc.. the only problem is the car won't start.  I've tried to jump the car three times and it won't work, its the not the alarm system as no one has messed with it, and the only thing I could think of is that it's the starter.  How easy is it to replace on a 97 nissan pathfinder?  Please advise.  Thank you in advance

Answer
Jeff,

It does sound like the starter if there is power to everything else.  Be sure to check that the neutral safety switch works by turning the key and running the automatic shifter through all the positions.  If this does nothing then you ought to replace the starter.  You can check the starter by bridging the circuit at the starter.  Touch the little post to the large post with a length of wire.  If the starter spins then you know that is is not the starter.  If nothing then it is the starter.
