Nissan Repair: ignition timing, nissan pathfinder, btdc

Question
I have an 88' Nissan Pathfinder Had to replacve the distributor and stabbed dist. at tdc #1 cyl but it wont run. Is it timed off at btdc? I am a certified mech, but dont do much work on Japanese vehicles.

Answer
Cliff,

The drivedog will only let the distributor go in straight up or 180 degrees out.  Pull number one plug and bump the engine over until you get the puff that tells you that you are coming op on top dead center.  Then look where the distributor goes and you will see the drive dog.  Line up the blade with the slot and you are home free.  I have had it happen to me many times.
