Nissan Repair: Car wont start, complaning, fuel pump

Question
After replacing the rear fuel pump in a 73 nissan 240Z it won't start and now I don't get  a turn over from the motor. Is there soming that I'm missing and not seeing it? The engine has high milage but it ran fine until I changed the fuel pump. Please help me get my son's car running he's driving me nuts with all the complaning he's doing. Thank you and in your debt, Rick

Answer
Rick,

When you say that it will nott turn over that would mean that the engine does not crank?  If this is the case you need to be looking at the electrical system to see where the open is.  When you did the fuel pump did you disconnect any other wires?  If you mean that it will not start and it does turn over when you turn the key then I would be looking at priming the fuel pump.  If it is a 73 then you have a mechanical pump?  If so, the engine has to get fuel up to it to make it work.  An old trick to do this is to spray carb cleaner in the carburetor and get the engine to run a few seconds and this usually gets the pump sucking ahrd enough to bring the fuel from the tank.  If yours is an electric pump then you need to be checking to see that it is wired correctly and that it is putting fuel pressure out to the carburetors.
