Nissan Repair: automatic transmision, shift into overdrive, auto transmision

Question
my 2000 fronter V-6 with auto transmision was running good until yesterday . When driving it will not shift until you are at 4000 RPM's . And dosn't shift into overdrive until 5000 RPM and around 90 MPH . When I first start it up the dash light that indecates that your overdrive is turned off will flash  for a moment and then go out but the service engine light remains on . What would you recomend I try to do to solve this probnlem ? Thankyou for any thing you can think of that might help

Answer
Victor,

You are looking at having the codes read on the computer for the transmission.  The transmission is controlled via the computer and the solenoids are electronic and the computer shifts your transmission.  I think you have a bad servo controller or a bad servo from what you are telling me.  First, you could take it to an autoparts store and have the codes read to see what the code means and go from there.  The bad thing is that the dealer is going to charge you a bundle.  But, they have the appropriate parts to correct the problem.  I do not do transmissions anymore and I have found that my best luck is with Cottman.  I have used them in both California and Texas and have had good experiences both times.  You could check with them and the dealer and see which way is the most cost effective.  You are looking at anywhere from $600 up to the cost of a complete transmission rebuild.  The problem is that whatever is causing the problem can be trashing other components in the transmission.
