Nissan Repair: 1988 Nissan P/U Wont Start - Power but no crank, safety interlock, indicator lights

Question
I have a 1988 2wd 4 Cylinder Pickup. When I turn the ingnition the engine won't start. This is what happens:

1) Turn key, all indicator lights come on (normal, so good power is indicated)

2) Turn key most of the way, clicking noise heard on Left side.

3) Turn key all the way, clicking noise heard on Right side (as seated in the driver's seat)

4) No crank whatsoever. Only the two "clicks". Power is fine.

I checked the distributor wires and all are new and connected well. All wires in other areas seem to be fine too. I recently sprayed carbourator cleaner in the intake to increase horsepower and also sprayed it around the carbourator too. I don't know if that is related, but I thought I would mention it since that is the last thing I did before this problem. Any Ideas?

Answer
Jeremy,

It sounds like the starter is defective.  Bridge the starter and see if it turns over.  Since you have the clicks your relays are working and the safety interlock is not taking the system down.  My bet is the starter without listening to the truck.
