Nissan Repair: 60,000 mi. service, power steering fluid, service interval

Question
I know that you are listed under Nissan repairs, my question is on a 1997 Ford Ranger. The two people listed under ford are maxed out, it is a generetic question, I hope you don't mind. My 1997 Ford Ranger has 60,000 miles on it, and I have been quoted $200 to $500 for the 60,000 mile service. What is REALLY necessary for the service at this time, I don't have a lot of money, but I do plan on keeping this truck for a while and I do want to do what is needed.

Thanks, Larry

Answer
Larry,

If you have an extended warranty you have to perform the tasks mentioned on the warranty profile for the given miles.  If you are out of warranty you can get by with changing the belts and hoses along with the coolant.  Also, have the brakes bled with Ford High Performance brake fluid to get the old fluid out of the system.  If you have a timing belt check the service interval in your manual to see if it is supposed to be done at 60K miles or 90K miles.  This timing belt thing varies and you probably do not have one if you have a V6 engine on a Ford truck.  Other than the items mentioned above you could go ape and change the power steering fluid and transmission fluid along with the rear end grease.  Also, check the brakes front and rear to make sure that there is enough material left.
