Nissan Repair: Heat, nissan 280z, radiator cap

Question
1983 Nissan 280Z doesn't like to run in Nevada heat. Feels like it runs out of gas climbing from 2500' to 5000'elevation. Feels like vapor lock. What is the best solution to avoid this? I've been told to insulate fuel lines and check for low volume fuel pump.
Replaced air cleaner with K&N, replaced fuel filter, fuel regulator, plugs, plug wires, distributor and rotor.

Answer
Gary,

I feel your pain as I live in Las Vegas and it is rough on the car running in the summer.  First, be sure that the thermostat and radiator cap are in in good working order.  Get a thermal gun and check thee actual temperature of the engine.  Yes, insulate the fuel lines with thermal wrap at he engine compartment and where they get close to headers and exhaust.  The fuel pump should be checked for proper pressure and it would be a good idea to make sure the coil is putting out the proper voltage.  If your car has the injector fan be sure it is working and try wiring it up directly to a switch so you can turn it on and run it when in traffic.  If all this fails get a huge radiator and replace the old one.  I have found that once you get the engine temperature down the computer controlled fuel injection usually stops acting up.
