Nissan Repair: 1993 nissan sentra wont crank, nissan sentra, car starter

Question
Hi, I started my car one day and smoke started coming from under the hood. When I raised the
hood the fire was coming from a wire.I looked
at the wire that was attached to another wire
and it had 4 different color wires running from it with a little black box or relay on the end of it.The wire color were grn/yel,blu/wte,blk,and
blu/wte.I managed to read the numbers 50v on
this relay. The car cranked just only a few times
and ran and acted like it wanted to shut off once
then after that will not turn over. The starter
and everything was tested fine.I believe that
a car starter that was installed a couple of months ago that was not working right all
of the time caused this.Do you know what type
of relay this is and is this why the car won't crank?  Thanks!

Answer
Antonio,

If it were me I would replace the wiring first and the relay to the starter.  That is the one you are talking about.  Then, before you start the car, check the circuit at the starter and if there is a load over the 30 amps that it is supposed to pull replace the starter.  Also, make sure that none of the wires were touching the frame or engine as that could have caused the short in the first place.
