Nissan Repair: different sound, front wheel bearing, nissan frontier

Question
I have a 1998 Nissan Frontier 4x4 with really low miles (52,000). Just lately it has aquired a whining sound when you are making a semi sharp turn, and seems to stop when you step on the brakes. It started out when turning real sharp but doing it with less and less sharp of turns. Have any ideas? Thank you Suzanne

Answer
If it stops when you step on the brakes could be an indication of a bed front wheel bearing or a rotor that is out of radial allowances.  That is the rotor is warped and when you turn the rotor scuffs against the pads causing the noise.  When you put the brakes on the pads touch and the noise goes away.  If the front wheel bearing is defective the results would be the same.  You can see if the bearing is going out by jacking up the front end and supporting it with stands and then wiggle the front wheel in and out from top to bottom.  That is, hold the tire at the top and bottom and pull the top and push the bottom and then reverse the process and see if there is any play.  If you hear clicking or it wiggles a lot you know it is a bearing.
