Nissan Repair: brake problem, vacuum hoses, 4x4 nissan

Question
i have a 91 4x4 nissan pickup d-21. the problem i am having is that my front brakes will gradually get tighter the longer i drive untill they completly stop my truck. then i have to wait for 10 minutes for them to cool off and i can drive again untill they get hot again. I have already replaced the master cylinder, all the brake lines, calipers, rotors, wheel bearings, brakes pads, and replaced all the vacuum hoses but they are getting hot and seizing up. from what i can tell, the brakes are not releasing after i push on the pedal because if i dont use the brakes at all, then they dont grab at all. the truck is a 5-speed standard if that matters. i would like to know what you think the problem might be

Answer
Andy,

It sounds like the brakes are hanging after they are applied.  What I mean is that the pistons on the calipers are not retracting after they are applied.  Therefore, something is causing it.  Now, you have replaced all the usual suspects.  So, I think the pedal is not coming back all the way or the rod that actuates the master cylinder is out of adjustment.  First, check to see if the brake pedal is not releasing all the way by pulling up on it with you toes after you apply the brakes.  There is a normal stop that it rests against.  Now, since your truck is a 91 the return spring might ahve gone bad and that could be causing the entire thing.  If not the rod that the pedal pushes into the back of the master cylinder is too long.  Most are adjustable and a couple of turns to make it shorter could correct the problem too.  I have seen both and I would start with the pedal return first.
