Nissan Repair: engine, nissan micra, hall effect sensor

Question
My Nissan Micra L (1995)is stopping when it has driven around 15 miles. It feels like it is running out of petrol, although there is plenty in the tank.  After a couple of minutes, the car is fine and will go again.

Answer
Catherine,

Check the fuel at the engine to see if it is getting pressure.  If not you will probably be lookiing at a relay that is going out or a pump that is not giving pressure.  Check the pressure line with a hose and a can and have someone else turn on the key.  If the volume filling the can is good, like a half a gallon in thirty seconds or less you have pressure and volume that is sufficient.  If this is good then I would be looking at the ignition circuit.  A bad coil or a hall effect sensor could be going out.  When the engine gets hot it quits.  Check the fuel first then go to the ignition.  Lastly, it could be the distributor.  If yours has an optical pickup you could have oil getting past the seal and this would mean a rebuilt distributor.
