Nissan Repair: transmission codes, mercury villager, shift problem

Question
Have a 1994 Mercury Villager with transmission
shift problem.

How do I access and interpret the fault codes for the transmission, which are separate from
from the other codes from engine and electrical?

You would need a transmission scanner and since the Mercury Villager is really a Quest I would assume that you would need a Consult II scan tool.  Your best bet is to take it to a Cottman transmission shop and have the codes pulled.  Then you can decide how to proceed.  I do not like to do transmissions, especially front wheel drive, and I have had good luck with these people in several different states.
