Nissan Repair: Pulsar intermittent starting problem, starter solenoid, nissan pulsar

Question
Hi,
I have recently brought a 1995 Nissan Pulsar automatic and occasionally it won't start, I get a clicking sound, the starter turns over very slowly or not at all and the dash lights and other electrics seem to go crazy. I try again later and it starts up fine. The battery is good and a quick test with a multimeter shows that the altenator is definitly sending voltage back to the battery. Could this be a problem with the starter solenoid or is there something else that I should look at?

Answer
Scott,

It sounds like the starter is going out.  When the brushes get short they touch the sides and will eventually short out.  I would remove the starter and check for brush wear.  If you have the time and can find a kit you can do the rebuild yourself or just get another starter.
