Nissan Repair: infiniti shifter, road salt, wd 40

my 2000 i 30 sometimes seems stiff shifting out of park.  Where is the external mechanism located under the hood so I can wd 40 it?

Do you mean stiff like it is dragging or is it that the brake pedal switch is not allowing the shifter to release?  The mechanism is on the driver's side above the transmission.  Take the air filter box out and it is located under it.  But, my bet is on the shift interlock that keeps the car in park when it is off.  That is, unless you live in the North and the road salt has taken its toll.
