Nissan Repair: 99 Maxima no start, service mgr, intermittent problems

Question
Well Von, i'm bothering you again.... You had replied about the computer key problem.  As far as I know, I haven't been close to any electromagnetics or anything out of the ordinary.  I had it reprogrammed two weeks ago today, and it did it again today.  Same exact symptoms.  Battery up, no unprogrammed keys, has fire, has fuel.  No key works again.  I have to tow it to the dealer again tomorrow morning.  Any ideas?  Could there be a problem with the remote start system?  Not likely since it hadn't been used today and it was starting fine but you never know.  The service mgr. says that something must be doing something to the key transponder located in the dash.  I haven't told them yet, but I don't feel that I should have to pay for another reprogram in just two weeks.  This should not be happening, and it's getting very aggrevating.  It has to be a simple problem, its just finding it.  Thanks Von.

Answer
Frank,

You and the dealer are correct about it being the control module in the car that interrogates the keys.  You probably have a defective box and it will need to be replaced.  Intermittent problems are the most difficult to correct.  However, I would check to see that all the connectors going to the box are correct and if you have an aftermarket alarm I would make sure all connections are soldered as I have seen these cause problems with the module.  Unless you have an extended warranty they will make you eat the cost of the control module.
