Nissan Repair: distributor rotor stuck, phillips screws, nissan pickup

Question
1994 nissan pickup v6. replacing rotor button, was stuck on. dremel to cut off plastic part, then used vice grips to wiggle and finally pull off collar (part of rotor) truck will idle but not drive. rotor button will now move left to right over an inch if turned by hand. yes bolt is installed in rotor. what did i break down inside and what to do now?

Answer
If you look straight down at the distributor with the rotor off you will see a screw.  Please take note of its position and then remove the screw.  Now, take the two phillips screws off the metal cover that surrounds the distributor and remove both the part that the rotor goes on as well as the cover.  Check to see if you damaged the rotational assembly.  What I would do is reinstall the center part that the rotor goes on and tighten the screw down.  If you rotate it counter-clockwise and clockwise does anything else move?  If  you have stripped the alignment part you are going to be out for a new distributor.  If not and it is tight you can take the part off and reinstall the coverplate and the center part and you will be good to go.  Let me know how it goes.
