Nissan Repair: 1997 Nissan quest not starting???, fuel pressure regulator, hot water heater

Question
I have a '97 nissan quest and until a week ago it was running fine.  Recently the mini van does not start, it cranks but nothing.  I removed the line coming out of the fuel filter to see if any fuel would come out if I trying cranking the car over, but nothing comes out.  Do I need to change my fuel pump (where is it located ?) or is it just the fuel pressure regulator?

Answer
The fuel pump and regulator are part of the same assembly so you will need to replace the pump.  But, before you do be sure to check the relay and fuse for the fuel pump as they might be blown.  But, for the year it would be a good bet the fuel pump is gone.  The pump is in the tank and it is a difficult task to replace.  Unless your tank is empty it is very heavy.  Gasoline weighs a little over six pounds a gallon so do the math on how full your tank is.  And, gasoline is explosive so if you are going to drain the tank you have to take precautions.  No drop lights in the area and no smoking and do not do it in the garage where a hot water heater is.  I do not remember if a 97 Quest has an access panel under the rear seat to access the pump?  Get a manual to see.  If there is no access panel you will have to drop the tank to get to the top of it to get to the fuel pump.  Buy a pump rom Nissan as the aftermarket pumps are not nearly as good when it comes to quality.  And, once you have done one pump you will never want to do it again.  Maybe in 12 years...
