Nissan Repair: Frontier rear bumper, reg cab, ochs

Question
I have a 2001 Frontier 2WD 5SPD reg. cab. I was hit from behind, the only damage was the step bumper. Looks pretty simple to me to change, am I right? Or are there any hidden problems I might encounter? I plan to purchase a new Nissan step bumper(OEM) from the dealer. Thanks Rich Ochs

Answer
There should not be a problem with a direct replacement.  However, I would disconnect the battery and wait ten minutes for the airbag circuit to drain.  There are sensors at the back of the frame as well as the front that actuate the airbags.  These are not part of the bumper so do not worry.  It is just that you will be working about a foot from where they are positioned.  So, disconnecting the battery is just a precaution.  Other than that it is no big deal to change out the bumper.
