Nissan Repair: suspension, alignment shop, nissan sentra

Question
I have a 1997 Nissan sentra.  I am having problems with inner tire wear.  I have aligned the tires several times, but the problem reoccurs.  I am going to replace the front struts...are there any concerns i should have about doing this job.  should i get the tires aligned after changing the struts?  should I change out the back shocks at the same time?

Answer
I would check the ball joints when replacing the struts.  I assume you have done struts before?  You will need a spring compressor for strut equipt cars and if you have not done it before read up or get a friend that has done it before.  It is not really that difficult.  But, the springs are under tension and can come undone and hit you and hurt or kill you.  never get inline with the spring always to one side or the other.

You will need an alignment when you are done.  If you get a scribe and outline the position of the strut on the spindle you can get the car back pretty close to the original alignment and that way you will not have too interesting a drive to the alignment shop.

The back struts are like the front and you can do all at once if the back are leaking too.  If you wait and they go bad in a a few months you will be back at teh alignment shop again...  So, it is one of those pay me now or later things.  If they look bad do them all at once.  If they seem to be good and you drive mostly on the highway they could wati another year or so.
