Nissan Repair: Window regulator replacement, bite size pieces, nissan xterra

Question
I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra 4X4. My back rear window
is stuck in the down position. The local Nissan dealer ship said i need to replace the regulator. DO u have any instructions on how to go about that. I have never taken the door panel, I need instructions
to do so.

Answer
No, I do not have the specifics for your particular truck.  If it were me I would buy the factory manual on CDROM and then you can see what has to be taken off first.

If it were me and I had no manual I would start with the door handle and any exposed screws.  Then I would pull the bottom of the door panel off first.  Be sure to take the cup around the door handle off or make sure it does not hang up.  There should be a phillips under the handle and the pull.  Have someone hold the panel while you disconnect the wiring.  Now the fun part is getting the regulator out.  Autozone or another parts store should be able to get you a new regulator.  The interesting part is getting the old one out if it is not in the proper position.  I like getting the window about half way down so i can access the bolts that hold the glass to the mechanism.  Then, take the bolts out and have someone hold the glass up and take the other bolts out to get the regulator out.  Be careful with the glass when you take the regulator out and don't bang it or drop it.  Also, when you put the glass back on the new regulator do not over tighten the bolts as you can break the glass.  Remember this is safety glass and will shatter into bite size pieces.
