Nissan Repair: 2000 Maxima SE Exhaust Noise, rust hole, exhaust noise

Hello!
Wondering if you can help me -
My Max has 65k on it. Recently the exhaust started sounding a bit Iroc-Z'ish so I brought the car to the dealer and they said there was a rust hole in the flange...I had the muffler replaced by a local garage yesterday b/c the dealer wanted twice as much to repair. However, the car still sounds like an Iroc-Z...it's louder at acceleration then idle...
Any idea what else could be wrong?

Check to see if the muffler is the only area that the exhaust was leaking.  The Maxima had a Skyline muffler on it from the factory that had a baffle in it and when the car is at idle the noise is really low.  You have an aftermarket muffler and it probably much louder.  But, again check for leaks upstream of the muffler.  It is probably the resonator.  That is the thing between the converter and the muffler.
