Nissan Repair: Suspension, spring compressor tool, cotter pins

Question
HOW DO I REPLACE THE STRUTS ON THE FRONT AND REAR AND WHAT TOOLS WILL I NEED. I HAVE A 97 MAXIMA WITH 130, OOO MILES. AND WHEN DO I GET A YUNE UP.

Answer
The struts require ball joint removal tools.  A pickle fork will work but it trashes the boots.  I like the ball joint removal tool you get from the parts store.  It presses the bolt out.  You will need needle nose plyers to remove the cotter pins.  Also, you will need outside spring compressors for strut equipt cars.  You will need a good set of sockets and wrenches.  metric of course and jacks and stands to hold the car up.  The back is much easier as you can take them out and then compress the springs.  Be careful of the springs and follow all directions that come with the spring compressor tool.  You will need a four wheel alignment when you are done.  You need a tuneup now.  It is recommended at 80K as a minimum.  Buy plugs and wires and a PCV valve.  If you have not done the timing belts they need to be done before they break and trash the engine.
