while changing the powersteering pressure hose, a spring and small rod fell out and I don't know which one goes back in the pump first and which direction does the rod go?
Answer -
What year nissan do you have and what model? I'm sorry, It's a 1990 nissan maxima se ..  the small spring and piston type rod fell from the bottem of the pupm where I disconnected the pressure hose. I put the spring and piston back in but now I have no power steering, what do I do?
Answer -
Take the spring and piston out and turn it around and put it in the other way.  It works as a pressure bypass and right now it is in constand bypass...... OK but which one goes in first the spring or the piston and which end of the piston should point down ward , the rounded end or the pointy end..

Answer
Spring goes in first with the rod in the spring and the round end facing out.  That way when the pressure builds the pressure will overcome the spring pressure and you will only get power steering when you are driving slow.  When your speed increases the pressure overcomes the spring and the fluid just circulates.
