Nissan Repair: 99 Sentra shifting into 2nd gear, slide pins, anchor plates

Question
I have 99 Sentra. 1.6L. 5 Speed. I have problem getting it into 2 gear after it seats all night. Takes about 5 minutes of driving to smoothly shift into 2nd. Also, I go through 2 pairs of front tires a year. I drive maybe 1500miles a month. Allignment is checked twice a year. Frame is fine. have 106000 miles. What can I do to fix that? brackes changed every 6 month and rotors once a year. I do have wheels shake when braking. brakes look fine. Thanks

Answer
Hi Nick, You might try replacing the 80/90 transaxle gear lube with 75w gear lube. Might help. Your 2nd gear Synchro  is probably getting worn and after ther fluid warms up it shifts better. If you are driving that much you should be rotating your tires 3-5,000 miles to get the most life out of them. If you already do this. Replace the front struts. You go through a lot of brakes. Do you use it for delivering mail or papers. Brake pulsation is warped rotors already. Make sure the Caliper slide pins are free to move back and forth. Stuck pins will bind the calipers and wear out a set of pads in a hurry and heat up and help warp the rotors. Pull the pins out and wire wheel them if they are rusting  or clean them off and the pin holes in the anchor plates with air or Brakleen. Apply some brake grease or Anti sieze to them before reinstalling. Mike
