Nissan Repair: paint, rust paint, silicone spray

Question
hello i know this is not very NISSAN specific but...
just wondering my 91 pathfinder is rusting from salting of roads.  my fuel lines under the car are getting pretty worn. would it be bad if i coated them with a rust paint for winter? also is there anything under the car that shouldn't be painted over?(moving parts etc...)

Answer
Hugh,

Don't paint over your BRAKE LINES or
ER Brake cable

If it is rear wheel drive don't paint the drive shaft or the u joints.

The best bet for your fuel lines (if cracked and correded) I would just change them out.  Instead of painting I would use a silicone spray to coat the new lines.  This will help maintain the lines from the exposure of the salty roads.
