Dear Darrel,
You are right, it does not start At All. The 'crank' sound I hear is normal. (I even went outside after I wrote you and tried to 'pump' the gas - didn't work of course),
We had the battery checked ([smug] thou I knew the battery was fine.) Another mechanic friend suggested the fuel pump or a clogged fuel line. (I wish my friends lived less than 500 miles away!)
I Rarly drive my husbands car, so I know that problems can happen that he doesn't notice.
For example, for about 4 months whenever he pulled into the driveway I heard (and I have a 50% hearing loss!) a screaming sound (belt loose) from under his hood. Being passive-aggressive I didn't point it out to him - his car, his responsiblity. In January, when I flew home after visiting my sister, my neighbor picked me up instead of my husband. I was told his car broke down. We had it towed to 'Brake Masters' (his choice). At first they said that just the belt was missing, then they came back and said his whole water pump was missing and must be laying on the road somewhere!
Thank you for all your kindness.

My husband purchased a Sentra GXE (from the dealer). It has 37130 miles, mostly highway... the engine stalled, and he couldn't get it to restart. It 'cranks', but does not turn over.
Thank you.

Well Trisha,
I am assuming you found the solution to your problem.  So I guess you will not need my assitance any more.
Good luck
or should I say good luck to your husband.

Dear Darrel,
I didn't get any message that you sent after my respose to your question regarding whether or not the car starts at all...-I was having trouble with my e-mail for a couple of days. So I have changed my e-mail address to my hotmail account.
The car is still sitting there, and we still don't know what to do.
Please, please (with sugar on top) help us
Thank you very much.
Patricia

Answer
Trisha,

DESPERATLY HAVE THEM CHECK the fuel pump

How the check WITHOUT taking it to a shop is
take off the fuel line to the fuel filter.
turn the KEY ON.  IF fuel SHOOTS OUT.

the pump is working.

Now mind you there will be fuel that comes out when you take off this line.  But I want to know if the gas SHOOTS OUT when you turn the key on?

SECOND THING TO CHECK:

check your coil (I don't know where the location is check your manual)
the best way to do this is:

take out one spark plug (doesn't matter which one)out
of the block and put it back into the spark plug wire that it came out of
HOLD the spark plug to METAL. Then have someone turn the KEY TO ON. If the spark plug SPARKS your coil is working.
Or if you get shocked it is working
So PLEASE hold the wire. NOT THE PLUG!!!

IF these 2 items are working.  Then I would go check your fuel injectors, they might be clogged.
Just do these 2 things first and see if that works.

Also tell me if your engine LIGHT stays ON?

Darrel
