Nissan Repair: 95 Altima, head gasket, specks

Question
The Altimas engine has been "fried" due to overheating, how would I go about replacing the head gasket without totally replacing the engine?

Answer
Daniel,

You don't need to replace the motor unless it cracked the block.

You will have to pull the head off, take it to machine shop and have it redone.  Then put new gasket and head on and tork it back to specks.

Make sure you drain your OIL and run about 2-3 QUARTS of oil through the block (to get all the water and bad oil out of there).  Change oil filter also.

IF Motor is cracked then you have no choice but to replace the block.  The new block will come with the new head.  All you have to due is interchange the other parts.
