Nissan Repair: column ignition lock, nissan maxima, battery connection

My ignition key will not release when i press the unlock button on the colunm. Where do i begin to look? 89 Nissan Maxima  it once did this when my gear was not properly placed in Park, but i think that is a safty feature. I used WD40 to try to remove the key. I have had battery connection problems. Driver side window goes up a down by itself. I haven't figured that one out either

Window:  the switch could be sticking, which may need to be replaced.  If you spilt soda or coffee around that area which is where the sticking is coming from.

Iginition lock:  try to turn the wheel and turn key simutaniuouly, if this doesn't work you need a new ignition.

OR

your key may be worn down so far, that it is not making the right connections to turn.

After trying these things and they DON'T work

Go and have another key made.  Then try again.

IF THE key doesn't work.  It's sounds like another ignition will be needed.
