Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: passlock II, oldsmobile auroa, vtd

Question
I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Auroa and about a week 1/2 ago we came out to our car to find it would not turn over but radio and lights would come on.  We had it jumped and took it directly to have the battery tested.  It came back as a battery replacement recommended.  So we did.  1 week later after running a couple errands we went to leave again and the car did the exact same thing.  I went to get my neighbor to give me a jump so I could take it back where I had the battery put and during the time he was pulling his car around I thought I would try to start mine again and it started right up.  That evening then, I noticed while driving my security light came on and stayed on for only a few minutes.  It's done this one other time as well.  Then last evening I went to leave and the car would not start.  I was going through the owner's manual and noticed this is a potential problem with the Pass Lock II system.  I waited for 3 minutes as indicated in the manual and it started right up.  I would like some advice as what to do.  Do I need to re-set the key by turning it to the on position for 10 min. or have the system re-set?  I'm not completely clear on direction.

Thanks for your help!
Tammy

Answer
Hi
BEST advice at this time would be to take it to a good shop and have the VTD checked for codes.
Any VTD codes should be diagnosed.
I have seen the ignition key switch faulty, VTD module fault and or ANY related wiring.
Thats why I would HIGHLY recommend having it PROPERLY diagnosed, to make sure it is fixed so no money is wasted "swapping" parts.
I Hope this helps
