Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: motor cut off and will not turn over, intake plenum, 2000 buick lesabre

Question
My car is a 2000 buick lesabre custom has a 3800 series 2 engine. Today without warning it started to lose power and a clacking noise and cut off and will not turn over at all.
I was thinking maybe the loss most of the oil but not sure how oil light has never came on. the car has never been ran hot. Does this vechile has a external oil cooler? If so where is it located? any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi
I would HIGHLY suspect it is hydro-locked. The EGR pipe from valve to upper intake (plenum) are known to melt or distort the plastic. Wheen this happens, there is coolant flowing through the throttle body. This coolant is then allowed to enter the intake air stream, and eventually filling the cylinders enough to stop engine and "lock" it up.
They wont generally run hot. This is my opinion.
Repair wil be a new plenum, gasket and spark plugs.
To answer your question specifically IF car has an oil cooler (I've never seen one) it would be PROBABALLY on the DRIVERS side of the radiator. If it were external, it would be in front of A/C Condensor.
I Hope this helps
